Isaiah chapter 58, verse 6- [Is] not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? King James Version)

Free...that's a hard word for us to deal with at any time that we face it. We are numb to its mention whether that mention comes in the form of speakings from another's outh or speakings from our own spirit and soul. Deeply I wonder why we cringe and crumble and hide from the word free. It is as if we have forgotten that we were once free men and women who lived entirely different than this right now. Look at us.
Where did this notion of if a man shall not work he shall not eat come from? And if this notion was so stringent, such law, such sacred writ, why then has it been amended and fought over and heralded as a chief cornerstone of our women populations for so many years. What is it that lies and lives in that word free that we can't seem to unlock. I present this claim because I have the right to free speech yet also because I deeply want to know the answer for which no answer seems possible.
Free...where is it, what does it smell like, taste like, move like. I have listened to hip hop for years and years because that was the music that my generation called free. Are we free if the struggle persists? Are we free if we become excited about mentions of injustices and abandon-ments from the word spoken, mentioned, thought of?
When the Bible speaks of a Jesus Christ a Messiah, a Savior, a Redeemer, who frees us from the chains of sin and death, what does that mean to us? Some of us take a portion of that and add it to the portions that we have picked up and gathered from other forms of savior, from other forms of redeemer, from other forms of hope, because that is what we know to do.
We don't know this free, we only know how to learn to dodge the hands of the free that we may not be struck too hard. Friends, enemies, we live because we are destined to live. We breathe because we are destined to breathe. We move because we are destined to move. Yet free is not ours in its fullest measure right now. I don't know if the corners hold all of the promise of free. I don't know if the job markets and the college degrees hold all of the promise of free that we expect, that we cry to meet. I don't know if religion holds all of the promise of this free that we seek. I only know that we are here again trying to uwrap the mysteries and oddities and dimensions of this free. blessings and peace in the searching.
